When iOS 7.1 released, patching the exploits on Evasi0n 7, you could almost hear the collective groan. Evad3rs have since confirmed that they are not actively working on a jailbreak for iOS 7.1 and will more than likely wait until iOS 8 is released later on this year.

However, it would appear that there is a jailbreak for iOS 7.1, courtesy of a utility called Geeksn0w. It is only for the A4 chip on the older devices though and is also a tethered jailbreak rather than untethered.

This means that, anyone who does download it will need to tether their iOS device to their PC every time they want to reboot. Every time a major jailbreak is patched, it always takes a while for a new tool to be released. Most of the time, as we saw with the iOS 6 jailbreak, the developers will not waste jailbreak exploits on what they see as minor upgrades, preferring instead to save them for something more worthwhile.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 7.1 using GeekSn0w

Home  iPhone
Despite Evad3rs announcing that they will not be working on an untethered jailbreak utility for iOS 7.1, another developer may have come up with a tethered solution for A4 devices.  The utility is called Geeksn0w and it is based on the limera1n exploit, first used back in 2010.

However, it is only compatible with the iPhone 4 and is really nothing that new.  Geeksn0w is a modified version of Opensn0w, developed by Winocm, together with the limera1n exploit and it will only result in a tethered jailbreak.
If you have an iPhone 4 and are happy to give this a go, we have the steps required to jailbreak using Geeksn0w below. However, we must advise you that you do this at your own risk. We cannot determine if this is an authentic jailbreak utility or not and users must exercise caution, especially in light of the number of fake jailbreak sites that appeared after iOS 7.1 was released.

Geeksn0w Supported Devices

The Geeksn0w utility is compatible with:
  • iPhone 4 GSM – AT&T, Global and Revision A
